Our Work with Students

TFC works directly with Secondary school and entry-level undergraduate students to build core 21st Century capacities so as to make them ready for their life beyond school, in college, in their careers, and as engaged citizens of a modern democracy. We design and execute courses that focus on setting students on a path to becoming self-directed learners, using digital and media literacy as both hooks and enablers, and using social justice content to promote engaged citizenship.

We believe

A good education helps students:

  • build foundational knowledge

  • develop deep understandings about key concepts

  • learn how to analyse the complex realities of a rapidly changing world.

Students evolve into independent learners. They

  • ask critical questions,

  • source and explore new knowledge,

  • construct and articulate their own understandings of problems and issues, and

  • identify new solutions.

Students take charge of their learning and their lives by

  • defining a purpose,

  • setting long-term goals, and

  • charting a path for self-development.

Students become change-agents as they

  • participate in making changes in their own world,

  • participate in initiating changes in the communities of which they are a part.

These steps develop Student Agency and this education equips students to interact confidently and positively in their lives after school, in higher education, in their careers, and in civic life.

We use inquiry-based pedagogies and “gold-standard” project-based learning to research, design and execute solutions to community based problems, in order to help them learn how change can be initiated.
