What is Democracy? Why Democracy?

This set of resources intend to help teachers and teacher educators to take the chapter What is Democracy? Why Democracy? From the grade IX textbook, Democratic Politics 1 to learners. The chapter is divided into four parts: An introductory part to engage the learners through a video and to help them recall what they have learned about democracy in earlier classes, a What is Democracy Part which tries to introduce the various features of a democracy through a comparison of different democracies from around the world, a Why Democracy part which intends to inculcate an appreciation for democracy among the learners and a concluding part that introduces the possibilities of democracy in everyday life. We have included ways to track the progress of learners at each step as well as included factsheets that can help build the required knowledge base for the educator.
